The Ihlara Valley, 18 kilometers long, 150 meters deep and 200 meters wide, has thousands of habitations and, unlike other canyons, is the largest canyon in the world where people lived in the past. The Melendiz River, which shapes and gives life to the Ihlara Valley, is the main source of life here. Hundreds of churches and rock sites, created by lightly carving the rocks surrounding the valley, have made the valley one of the most important centers of culture and civilization in the world.
- Gumusler monastery
The monastery and underground settlement were built in the 10th century away from large settlements; At that time it was called “Traikas-“. Due to the presence of ancient silver deposits around it during the Ottoman period, it was called the Old City of Gumusler, and the monastery was used for worship by non-Muslims. as a result of the Lausanne Exchange of 1924, when non-Muslims from the province of Nigde immigrated to Greece, the monastery was abandoned, losing its functionality, it was not used for forty years. The monastery was reopened in 1962; Restoration work began in 1963 by British archaeologist Michael Gough. Gumusler Monastery and its surroundings were declared an archaeological site in 1973 and are open to visitors.

Its remoteness from major transportation routes and rugged terrain make it a suitable retreat for those seeking asylum or religious retreat. Monasteries, churches, chapels, dining rooms and monastic cells, places with warehouses and wineries are carved and decorated with frescoes.

Pigeon Valley, one of the most beautiful places in Cappadocia, has been hosting all its guests for years with its fascinating view and the famous sunset witnessed from Uçhisar Castle. This wide valley between Uçhisar and Göreme really gets its name from the pigeons. According to the rumor, pigeon manure is very useful in grape breeding, which attracted the attention of the people living here with the pigeon breeding that started in the 9th century. For this reason, the nests carved from the rock, which still stand out today, are formed by the agricultural workers choosing the valley instead of the houses in order to increase their productivity.
- Devrent Valley
Devrent Valley, located in Avanos region, is also part of the time that touched Cappadocia like a magic wand, like a fairy tale portrait. Since each fairy chimney in the valley looks like it was once alive but turned into stone, it has become known as the “Imaginary Valley” or the “Pink Valley”, perhaps because of the color of its rocks at sunset.
